Mary is a 53-year-old woman living in Community Choice Housing. Mary is unable to speak, but this does not stop her from making friends everywhere she goes. With her positivity and family’s support, Mary has not let her setbacks bring her down.
Two years ago Mary was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors found an inoperable tumor on her bile duct. The doctors
ruled that undergoing surgery would result in Mary’s death. Joe, her brother, decided that Hospice was the best treatment plan for Mary. He also began to work less to be able to spend more time with his beloved sister. The two are very close, and he takes her to church every Sunday.
Two years later, Mary is tumor-free! She has had no repercussions because of her cancer and does not have to go back to the doctor for a screening for another year.
Mary likes to live life to the fullest. She wears the most sparkly shoes you can find, and has taken a ride in the sidecar of a Harley! Mary loves to travel and has canoed at Creve Coeur, taken the train to Herman, and has been to Branson. Joe has hopes of taking her in a plane someday soon.
Music is another love of Mary’s. In particular, Mary loves Joy FM radio. Through Joy FM, she discovered Amy Grant whose music calms her down. She since has had the pleasure of meeting Amy in person.
Through everything, Mary remains strong. She finds joy in things like sitting by the lake listening to Joe play guitar. We hope the following years will bring the pair many adventures and good health.
Mary received a shopping spree for her present from Santa at Christmas in July. She lost a lot of weight and most of her clothes do not fit her properly.
